Alexandra Park Greenhouse Group
The aim of APGG is to restore/repair a 100' 1930's teak and cast iron Richardson's greenhouse situated in the depot in Alexandra Park . This gh was once the mini floral hall which was a heated botanical glasshouse the focal point of pets corner a much loved attraction now missed by residents of Hastings who remember visiting as children with their parents.
Prior to being a visitor attraction the gh was part of a number of greenhouses bought by HBC in the 1930's to propagate plants for the parks and gardens in the borough.
APGG have been working to halt the decline of this valuable heritage building since 2013 . We have now been granted 25 year lease by HBC and are in the process of forming a charity. We are actively fund raising through plant sales from the Gh, donations and events.
Volunteers join us on Saturday mornings to work on the site , care for the plants and are involved in plant sales and fundraising activities , both at the gh and off site.
The ultimate aim is to use the fully restored gh as a horticultural and nature centre for the community to use , visit and enjoy.
Growing and developing horticultural and gardening skills.
