Diversity Role Models
Diversity Role Models actively seeks to prevent homophobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying in UK schools. We stop bullying before it happens by educating young people about difference, challenging stereotypes and addressing the misuse of language.
We work on a whole school approach that includes working with pupils from all year groups, teachers, and governors.
We send role models into schools to talk about their own experiences of homophobic, biphobic or transphobic bullying, and provide professionally facilitated conversations within schools about how to prevent and tackle HBT bullying. We survey pupils, staff and governors before & after our workshops and find that after our workshops
82% of young people we have worked with say that they would do something to stop HBT bullying.
86% of young people we have worked with say that they would not use language like ‘you’re so gay’ in future.
We also work with students and pupils to help them campaign and to fundraise to prevent and tackle HBT bullying.
We are looking to pilot a whole town approach to HBT bullying in Hastings & St Leonards, and are working with Hastings Pride, and others to make this happen.
