All Accident Prevention including Home Safety
Every year in the UK more than 5,000 people die in accidents in the home and 2.7 million turn up at accident and emergency departments seeking treatment. But, because home accidents happen behind closed doors in isolated incidents they rarely attract public and media attention. RoSPA is one of the few national voices speaking out on this issue. We also campaign for change and provide a large range of resources to inform, educate and help to prevent accidents in the home and garden.
Home accidents are a real problem, with young children and older people being particularly vulnerable. Home accidents have not experienced the reduction in numbers seen in occupational or road accidents over recent years. There is a way to reduce the burden of accidents. Being focused on information and education, accident prevention centres on personal responsibility - helping people to look after themselves.
