Help with safeguarding, compliance or good practice
How we can help
From safeguarding and governance to policies and procedures, we're here to help you make sense of it all.
-
Our safeguarding leadership
Safeguarding is both a legal duty and a moral responsibility. We help groups put clear policies, reporting procedures and safeguarding processes in place. Whether you work with children, young people or vulnerable adults, we can provide guidance on incident reporting, codes of conduct, safer recruitment and DBS checks.
-
Compliance & governance support
Good governance is essential for running a sustainable organisation and accessing funding. We provide guidance on legal structures, charity regulation, trustee responsibilities and financial governance. Whether you're setting up a new organisation, becoming a CIO or reviewing your governance arrangements, we can help you make informed decisions. Through our community accountancy service, we also offer independent examinations and financial advice.
-
Promoting good practice
Strong organisations are built on more than compliance alone. We provide training, guidance and networking opportunities to help groups strengthen their policies, procedures and day-to-day operations. From volunteer management and health and safety to risk assessments and organisational development, we help groups build skills and confidence. Through the Hastings Community Network, organisations can share knowledge, exchange ideas and collaborate.

FAQs
-
Can HVA do a DBS check for me?
HVA is not able to administer DBS checks directly. However, you can apply for a DBS check yourself or use an umbrella body to process the check on your behalf, such as South East Language and Cultural Services (SELCS). Volunteer DBS checks are free, with a £10 administration fee, which is lower than many other DBS providers. For more information, please contact Pauline Lorence on 07840 794595 or email [email protected].

Where can I get safeguarding training?
In partnership with East Sussex County Council and others, HVA organises a range of safeguarding and child protection training. See our training section for upcoming opportunities.
