Campaign launches to kick Covid out of Hastings

In a major public campaign, Hastings’ community leaders are joining forces to kick Covid-19 out of Hastings once and for all.
Tagged #ImGoingforZero, Hastings Community Hub – which brings together all the organisations supporting people through the pandemic – is today launching a huge promotional campaign to help everyone in the town get life back to normal.
Spurred by good news of tumbling infection rates and a growing vaccination programme, Hub leaders are calling on everyone town-wide to keep up the good work, keep staying safe at home or outdoors, and drive cases locally down to zero.
To achieve the goal, they say, everyone should join in the fight. Six community leaders have each recorded their own personal video message using the hashtag #ImGoingforZero explaining why they want to see the end of the pandemic. And now they’re calling on everyone with a phone, camera or computer to add their voices to the campaign, record their own video and upload it to social media with the hashtag #ImGoingforZero.
The campaign – the first of its kind in the UK – will also see a broad range of other activities to get everyone involved.
Numbers of cases and hospitalisations will be projected nightly in the town centre, together with video messages from the community. Leaflets on how to get help will  be distributed at vaccination centres. Business groups, shops and services are set to join in. And to kickstart the campaign, the town’s mutual aid organisation, Hastings HEART, staged a big online broadcast on Friday 19th Feb where people quizzed an array of civic leaders questions about Covid, vaccinations and how the town can rebuild in the future.
Steve Manwaring, the Director of Hastings Voluntary Action and chair of the Hub says it’s down to all of us to do our bit: “Hastings had one of the lowest rates of Covid last year before it shot up again just before Xmas. Things are getting better but now is not the time to relax. If we all stick together and keep what we’ve been doing so well, we really think it’s possible to beat it this time.”
Anyone can add their voice to the cause by making a short video clip on their phone or tablet explaining why #ImGoingforZero. It may be because you want to get back to the pub, go to a gig, save lives or even just hug your family or friends. You can watch the videos from community leaders by searching for #ImGoingForZero on YouTube or heading to
