ESCC Covid Support Team

Covid has been around for a while now, and whilst the vaccine programme has been pivotal in our defence against the virus, testing is still an integral part of preventing rising infection rates.

With two forms of testing available, it can be tricky to remember which test is for which circumstance. The two forms of Covid testing are PCR tests and Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs), these can be more easily identified as symptomatic or asymptomatic testing (when you have no symptoms).

If people don’t have Covid symptoms, it’s important to regularly self-test as you could still be carrying the virus without knowing (1 in 3 people who test positive for covid don’t get symptoms). We recommend taking a Lateral Flow Test twice a week. They’re available from many participating pharmacies, or can be ordered online and delivered to your door via this link Order coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests - GOV.UK (  .

If people exhibit Covid symptoms (a continuous cough, a high temperature or loss of sense of taste or smell), have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid, or have had a positive Lateral Flow test, you’ll need to take a PCR test. What is a PCR test? This is a more sensitive test that can detect Covid-19 very early in the illness. You’ll need to attend a testing centre or order a PCR test kit to your home and send it off. Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) - GOV.UK ( results usually take up to 72 hours to come back and if you test positive you’ll need to isolate for 10 full days.

ESCC now have a covid support team who are able to provide education sessions to people who are in hard to reach groups or have the potential to be disproportionately impacted by covid. The education session contains the information on which test to do when, they can demonstrate how to take a Lateral Flow Test and answer further testing questions. If you work with groups that fit the criteria and are interested in the education please contact
