Hastings Voluntary Action and East Sussex College are delighted to announce that they are working in partnership to offer new services to HVA members and benefit students with real- time work experience.
The organisations have agreed to a series of pilot projects across a number of curriculum areas which will :-
- Offer building and construction skills to maintain and adapt local community buildings
- Help local organisations with design, logos, leaflets and promoting their organisation
- Work with catering & hospitality students to provide experience in community cafes, healthy eating projects and via one-off themed or “pop-up” events.
- Enable local students and other young people to volunteer in ways that work for them.
We will circulating further information about these opportunities over the coming weeks and we are asking HVA members to come forward with ideas of potential projects which could make a real difference to their work and offer meaningful opportunities for young people to expand their skills and experience.
Commenting on the new agreement HVAs Chief Executive Steve Manwaring said:-
“We are delighted to be working with East Sussex College. As well as bringing benefits to the sector we also know that the next period will be a tough one for local young people and we all need to be doing everything we can to offer opportunities for them to develop skills and experience.“
Dan Shelley Executive Director, Strategic Partnerships & Engagement at East Sussex College Group welcomed the new initiative and the opportunities it will offer to local students:
“East Sussex College is committed to do more to support the local communities we serve and in working closely with HVA and their member organisations we want to establish an exciting partnership to do just this, benefiting local community groups, the local people they work with and our students who will gain valuable and real work experience – a real win-win-win for Hastings.”
