Description
To involve the whole community of St Leonards-on-Sea and Hastings, including those who don’t usually engage in the cultural life of the town, in exploring a book each year that is part of our broad literary heritage. The Festival runs for 3 weeks in the Easter Holidays, but workshops and planning happens across the year.
Our objectives are to:
1. bring together new community partnerships and promote best practice
2. create opportunities for local artists to work with different groups and to display work in public places
3. promote inclusive, educational and engaging projects which enhance the community
4. raise the profile of the area across all sectors of the community
5. Increase confidence and individual cultural capital for all members of our communities
We do this through paying artists and musicians to work with schoolchildren to produce engaging outdoor art and performances, working with our community of independent shopkeepers who create window displays, special menu items and run creative writing and making challenges in their shops and organising (primarily) free events and performances for all ages.
