Description
CONSTITUTION August 2020
The aims of The Church Wood Community Orchard are to plant and look after a community orchard. To enhance the value of this area for local people and the wider public. To encourage the orchard to be used for learning opportunities, healthy, social and nature related activities .
After obtaining a Licence and support from HBC we planted 12 apple trees in February 2021,which are growing well. Also developing a local species wildflower meadow and events for the general public. We are especially interested in offering children and families active environmental education.
The group is run completely by volunteers, funded by donations and grants.
We had an official Launch on 7th of August. Grants have been obtained for Tools (TCV) Care of fruit Tree Course (Woodland Trust). Scythe course for our volunteers (Chalk Cliff Trust)
IN TREE WEEK in November we are organizing 2 events. Planting a hedge at the orchard and offering family activities. Sunday 28th an exhibition and talks at an in door venue and tree planing in Alexandra Park with Dr Own Johnson.
'This project is about developing a whole ecosystem for people and wildlife'.
