Description
Hastings Community of Sanctuary aims to
• Work within our community to build on the existing good will towards those seeking sanctuary, and towards making Hastings and St Leonards a place of safety and welcome for all those who seek refuge and support.
• Work within our community to raise awareness of the issues of sanctuary and asylum, and to make ours a place where all those seeking refuge may thrive and build relationships with local communities.
We are part of the national City of Sanctuary movement, made up of local organisations, community groups, businesses and individuals, who are together building a culture of welcome for people seeking sanctuary in the UK. HCoS campaigns on national issues facing refugees and people seeking asylum, runs collections for essential items and raises funds to help people in Hastings and overseas. Projects include the annual Sanctuary Festival, People’s Boutique, Beach Response Team (with Hastings Supports Refugees) and Schools of Sanctuary.
