This is an exciting opportunity to join the Active Hastings team as we expand the programme, thanks to funding from Hastings Primary Care Network. Active Hastings is a partnership project between Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council, which aims to increase physical activity levels and reduce health inequalities in the least active members of our community.
We are looking for an experienced Fitness Instructor or Community Development Officer to work with GPs and other practice staff to increase physical activity in adults, particularly people with long term health conditions or those identified as being at risk of poor health outcomes. This exciting new role will offer a much-needed link between GP practices and the local physical activity industry. It will ensure that GPs can confidently refer patients to physical activity practitioners, enabling patients to gain the physical and mental benefits of a more active lifestyle.
You will be responsible for identifying gaps in the local offer and working with the network of local instructors to create new, targeted physical activity sessions. You will offer initial advice around physical activity to patients and support them to attend appropriate community sessions. You will need a minimum of a L2 gym instructor qualification and be willing to work towards a Level 3 qualification in Exercise Referral.
We are keen to support your training and personal development and offer flexible working, including some home working. Funding is currently secured for a two-year period, but we will aim to source further funding to continue the programme beyond this period, although there is no guarantee at this stage.
