Children & Young People Outdoor Learning Facilitator

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Children & Young People Outdoor Learning team at Little Gate Farm. During the school term times you will be part of a team delivering a variety of outdoor learning opportunities to small groups of students with additional educational needs from several visiting schools. This will encompass a mixture of outdoor forest-based activities, team games and wellbeing exercises. As well as teaching animal care and land management skills as part of the BTEC in Land Based Studies qualification. Our goal is to help schools deliver a balanced and blended educational offer for their students which meets their needs. During the school holiday period and occasional Sundays, you will be working on our Young Rangers project, delivering quality respite in our exciting child led holiday program for children and young people with a variety of additional needs. You will be leading the day and facilitating activities which are predominantly outdoor based, comprising of a blend of woodland and nature activities, team games, natural art and animal care. Fulfilling the aim to support the Young Rangers to grow in confidence, develop friendships, independence, and positivity by giving them freedom, time and space to develop.

Main duties

School Groups

· To deliver outdoor learning to school groups on day visits to LGF

· Ensuring outdoor learning is creative, person centred with measurable outcomes, you will be responsible for lesson planning, measuring and monitoring progress, and reports and developing a safe and accessible curriculum. · Be part of a team delivering the BTEC in Land Based Studies qualification in conjunction with the visiting schoolteachers.

· To confidently handle the animals and be able to use them as an educational tool.

Young Rangers

· To lead a fun, safe and imaginative day for all the Young Rangers.

· To support the Young Rangers to grow in confidence, develop friendships, independence, and positivity by giving them freedom, time and space to develop.

· To work with Young Ranger Leader team to ensure that the Young Ranger program remains fresh, innovative and fun. · To provide a quality respite service.

· To confidently handle animals and use them as a wellbeing tool.

General

· To be fully inclusive and have the ability to adapt to support every child.

· To be part of a team ensuring the animals at the farm are kept to the highest standard and all their welfare needs are met.

· Creating a positive environment, where achievements are celebrated, and mistakes are learnt from.

· Demonstrate commitment to Little Gate Farm’s values and vision.

· To attend regular planning meetings with the team for long term planning and to aid future developments of the Young Ranger and Education Projects.

· To ensure we fully utilise the natural surroundings, ensuring we plan outdoor based activities and using natural resources were ever possible.

· To follow the Forest School ethos of child led activities.

· To build a fresh and exciting BTEC programme.

· To encourage and motivate the children and young people to try new activities and learn new skills.

· Aid the children and young people in developing a love and understanding of nature and an interest in their surroundings.

Salary: £11.50 per hour Working pattern: 4 weekdays per week and up to 2 Sundays per month (9am to 4pm approx..), you may be asked occasionally to work outside of these hours, with agreement.

Job Type: Fixed Term 6-month contract (with the possibility to extend after this period)
