Making it Happen Team Launch Evaluation Report

Community Development in action!
‘Making It Happen’ success stories from communities across East Sussex

The Making it Happen team have launched ‘Building community power in practice: How the People of East Sussex have ‘made it happen’ www.making-it-happen.org.uk/policy-evaluation. This report highlights and celebrates the achievements of community groups and people across the county.

Making it Happen was a community development programme established in 2019 and run by Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) with partners Hastings Voluntary Action, Rother Voluntary Action, Action in Rural Sussex and 3VA, alongside East Sussex County Council.

The programme worked on a simple principle: giving people the power to make their ideas for their communities happen. More than 350 grants and £900k of funding were awarded over five and a half years - and the communities across East Sussex that the programme worked with flourished, and showed exactly what they could do when given the resources and support they needed.

The ‘Building community power’ report demonstrates the impact the programme had - from more than 2500 ‘meaningful connections’ with people in their communities, to the transformative experiences participants in projects felt.
