Carers week celebrates and recognises the vital contribution made by the UK’s unpaid carers – at least 51,400 in East Sussex – who look after a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn’t manage without them.
The theme of National Carers Week 2024 'Putting Carers on the Map' is a reminder that carers, their work and needs should be highlighted. However, it is also a time where we as organisations should be asking what we can do to support carers who are
part of our team.
Based on our direct experience supporting staff who were also carers HVA took a concerted effort to gain accreditation as a 'carer friendly employer'. This enabled us to think about the changes we need to make to recognise and respond to the needs of carers. It was a positive experience and we encourage other employers to use this week to think about how staff who are carers can best be recognised and supported.
