We believe it will take a society to beat dementia.
Alzheimer’s Society in partnership with Hastings Voluntary Action
What Is It? What I Wish I Knew About Dementia creates a space for open and honest conversations about dementia, inviting community members to share their real reflections, thoughts and feelings.
By amplifying the lived experience of people affected by dementia, this project aims to normalise open conversation, challenge stigma and help people feel less alone.
The focus is on real voices and real stories. The tone is reflective, gentle and human rather than educational or clinical.
How does it work? During Dementia Action Week (18th – 24th May 2026), our public reflection boards invite people to share short written thoughts about dementia or for those who prefer to contribute anonymously the board includes a QR code that gives quick access to an online page where you can share your thoughts at any point during the week. People are welcome to engage in whatever way feels comfortable, writing a note, reading others’ reflections or simply taking a moment to pause. These community contributions will shape the heart of our main event on 4 June 2026, guiding a gentle, supportive conversation.
How do I get involved?
- Share your own thoughts, questions, feelings on our reflection boards.
- Read reflections from others in the community.
- Join us at our main event on the 4 June at Central Hall, Hastings from 10- 12pm for a supportive, guided conversation.
- Open to anyone affected by dementia or interested in learning more about dementia.
