The Hastings & St Leonards Food Network

The Hastings & St Leonards Food Network is a collaboration of food related organisations, businesses, individuals and community partners who are working together to tackle food insecurity in our town. The Network is facilitated by Hastings Voluntary action.

The Hastings Food Network was set up in Oct 2020 following the success of the Emergency Food Group initiated in March 2020 by Hastings Food Bank, Hastings Borough Council and Hastings Voluntary Action. Funding was received across East Sussex by Public Health to embed Food Partnership Officers in Hastings, Rother, Lewes and Eastbourne and Wealden.

•    Network concept – To bring people together and join up the dots on as many food related projects and initiatives happening locally as we can. To avoid duplication through sharing of resources, experience/expertise and funding. By working collaboratively, the network offers strength and consistency to tackle local food issues such as food poverty, food wastage, improving health and nutrition education and enabling local food growing schemes.

•    Network vision – To create a physical hub space in Hastings which can act as a base for food related activity from surplus food distribution to training such as food hygiene, lifting and handling, cookery workshops (eating on a budget, healthy eating etc) growing and veg box style schemes and signposting to food partners projects out in the community – a one stop food shop!
