HVA would like to invite you to a 4-hour workshop designed to raise awareness of common mental health issues, an overview of what support is available and how to navigate the local mental health system.
The workshop will consist of:
• A look at how common Mental Health issues develop
• An overview of some common conditions
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Psychosis
• Personality disorders/ Complex Trauma
• Self- harm and other expressions of distress
• Where to get help if someone is suicidal
• An overview of the local Mental health system and supports
• An interactive discussion about experiences
• Managing your own wellbeing
You will receive a workshop pack including a list of useful contacts and resources.

The course aims to raise awareness of child protection issues and procedures and the signs and indicators of child abuse.
To enable staff to identify and respond to child protection concerns and to become aware of ESCC Child Protection Procedures to encourage and develop effective inter-agency communication where child protection matters arise.

The aims: To give practical advice on developing a basic risk assessment for new clients
The objectives:
• To understand the importance of an initial home visit to access risk (for client and volunteers)
• To appreciate the assessment as part of establishing professional boundaries
• To understand the difference between a hazard and a risk
• To use the risk assessment cycle
• To be able to take into account positive risk
• To develop a risk assessment template based on the aims and objectives of the organisation

The aims: To be introduced to legislation regarding equality and diversity and explore the concept of inclusion.
The objectives:
• To understand the Equality Act and how it affects volunteers
• To explore what is meant by equality and diversity
• To be able to put into use ‘inclusion’ in support that is provided
• How to reduce isolation and promote inclusion

Completion of this course will enable you to:
Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider
Be able to assess an incident
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
Please note: There is a £50 charge for this course.

MECC (Making Every Contact Count) is a practical introduction to the skills in talking to people about the issues they are concerned about or the changes they are seeking to make. It is all about supporting people to identify and access the things that could help them. So if your work brings you into frequent contact with people and you want to improve the likelihood of making a real difference this training could be for you. The programme takes place at Jackson Hall and is free.
